Parkinson’s disease is the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease. An estimated seven to 10 million people worldwide have Parkinson’s disease. Men are 1.5 times more likely to have Parkinson’s than women. The disease affects patients’ quality of life, making social interaction more difficult and worsening their financial condition, due to the medical expenses associated with the disease.
These are just the tip of the iceberg, as it relates to sobering stats on Parkinson's disease...
On this week's solosode of The Red Light Report, I decided to report on some hot-off-the-press research about -- you guessed it -- red light therapy and Parkinson's disease. We typically associate Parkinson's as just a disease of the brain. But what if I told you that your gut microbiome may playing a larger role in the disease via the gut-brain axis?
It turns out that most individuals with Parkinson's have the opposite desired ratio of bacteria ('good' vs. 'bad') that is seen in a healthy, vibrant gut environment. This research article, which was published in early January, uncovers the amazing potential that red light therapy, specifically near-infrared light, has on improving the ratio of 'good' bacteria to 'bad' bacteria in the gut.
This is a very exciting piece of research, as it further demonstrates the versatile healing abilities of red light therapy and just how resilient our bodies can be when given what it wants. In this case, the gut wanted some NIR light. Learn lots and enjoy!

This week's episode on The Red Light Report is the grand finale of the three-part solosode series about light and its influence on the "energetic portion" of our eyes. This rather old, yet profound information, comes from the research of German ophthalmologist Fritz Hollwich and other studies he collected from the late 1800s through the 1970s in his book, The Influence of Ocular Light Perception on Metabolism in Man and in Animal.
We covered the following topics in last week's episode: light and body temperature, light and kidney function, light and blood count and light and metabolic functions. The research in these areas leave no doubt that we all possess another pathway in our eyes that leads to downstream effects in our physiology, for better and, certainly, for worse.
This week, we will be learning the following topics: light and thyroid function, light and sexual function, light and adrenal and pituitary functions, natural sunlight and artificial fluorescent light, light pollution, and the importance of light in metabolism in man and animal: summary. The last three sections are of utmost importance and by far have the most applicable take-home points of this entire solosode series.
While this information may be "old," given the book was published in 1979, it has never been more timely and relevant than now with our illuminated modern-day lifestyles. Ever since 1879, when Edison invented the lightbulb, the pendulum has been constantly swinging to the other side. And while there have been many advancements and benefits directly because of the lightbulb, virtually every aspect of our biology has paid the preverbal price.
Fritz Hollwich was very aware of the fact that our lighting environments taxed our health -- even over 80 years ago! And thanks to him, we know definitively that the window into our eyes tells the entire story.
-
Dr. Mike Belkowski discusses the following:
- Light and thyroid function
- Research done on ducks with red light to the eyes
- Research on mice and rabbits in light
- Light and sexual function
-
- The sexual function in starlings and jays - being exposed to red light at night
- Testosterone production in males
- The importance of light entering the energetic portion of your eye
- How light stimulates gonadal activity
- Research on how red light stimulates testicular development
- Research on how light and temperature control increases egg production in birds
- How you can determine the sex of your dog by the lighting conditions
- Increase in oxytocin due to increased light exposure
- How light affects the growth of deer antlers
- Light and adrenal and petuitary functions
- Natural light and artificial fluorescent light
- How all organisms are affected by the day/ night sequence
- How too much artificial light leads to pathological changes in the organism
- The monotony of artificial lighting
- How natural sunlight balances our stress hormones
- How we were raised through evolution by full-spectrum sunlight
- Light pollution and the importance of light and metabolism in man and animal

In the second part of this three-part series on The Red Light Report, we are going to continue learning from one of the top light pioneers and light researchers of all-time, Fritz Hollwich, via his book The Influence of Ocular Light Perception on Metabolism in Man and in Animal.
For a quick review, we covered the following topics in last week's episode: the energetic portion of the optic nerve, light and the pineal gland and light and growth. That information laid the foundation for understanding the true impact that light has on our physiology. Backed by research from the early 1900s no less!
This week, we will be learning the following topics: light and body temperature, light and kidney function, light and blood count and light and metabolic functions. We will continue to uncover powerful research demonstrating the impact of light, but now in different areas of our biology.
This further proves just how profound the light environment you surround yourself on a consistent basis truly is. It doesn't just impact one area of your health and wellness, it virtually impacts ALL facets of health and wellness -- via the energetic pathway of your eye.
Dr. Mike Belkowski discusses the following:
- Light and body temperature
- How light affects all aspects of our health
- Circadian rhythm of body temperature in adults
- How infants don’t have a circadian rhythm
- What happens when the circadian rhythm changes and how that disturbs body temperature
- The impact of light through your eye
- Light and kidney function
- Light and water balance
- How blindness leads to more water retention
- How circadian rhythm is impacted by shifted work schedules
- Light and blood count
- How blood is so closely involved with the whole organism
- Light and its effects on the immune system and white blood cells
- Light and metabolic function
- Lipid metabolism
- Light and protein metabolism
- Liver metabolism
- Light and blood sugar
- How animals are easier to fatten in dark places than when kept in bright areas
- How our light environment has real consequences

On the last episode of The Red Light Report this year, I decided it would be fun to take a slight deviation and learn about therapies that involve healing frequencies other than light. I will discuss the healing benefits of sound, specifically 528Hz that is also known as the "frequency of love" and the "frequency of health and longevity." We will then turn our attention to pulsed electromagnetic therapy, better known as PEMF therapy, and the many benefits that can be derived from these frequencies; interestingly, PEMF therapy shares many similar attributes to those found with red light therapy. Lastly, we will dive into two pieces of photobiomodulation research: one article looking at PEMF and red light therapy for reducing the hyper-inflammation associated with COVID-19 and another article looking at how transcranial red light therapy can assist with treating the core features of autism spectrum disorder.
Even though there are countless ways to utilize red light therapy, I believe we are just beginning to harness the full potential it has to offer. I am excited to see what new research comes out in 2022 and you better believe I will be sharing that information with you all on the podcast.
So I appreciate all of you for tuning in to the podcast and also for your patience as I grow as a podcast host and interviewer -- something I never planned on attempting before the beginning of this year, but has genuinely helped me grow as a person in many ways.

On this week's episode of The Red Light Report, I thought it would be fun to revisit the most popular episode of 2021! It was the fun conversation I had with the great intellect, David Horinek, where we dive into various aspect of anti-aging, longevity, infrared energy, light and water -- many of which he brilliantly incorporated into the numerous innovative products he created over the years. Equally exciting, David is the creator of the Longevv Revivv and Longevv Recovvr cremes that I had him develop to specifically harness the healing benefits of red and near-infrared light. I have David go into detail and explain the amazing benefits of each ingredient -- which on their own possess potent health & anti-aging characteristics for the skin -- and why he included them in the Longevv cremes.
David is the founder and Chief Innovation officer at Hologenix that developed Celliant, a responsive infrared textile that transforms body heat into full-spectrum infrared energy and is clinically proven to increase local circulation and cellular oxygenation -- that means more energy, endurance, strength, stamina, comfort, quicker recovery, and better sleep. The world’s leading brands, such as Under Armour and Levi’s use Celliant, along with countless other textile companies -- from bedding to socks to underwear and more.
David also co-developed a business to produce and distribute alkaline water: Designing a specific ratio of salt to water gives the water a higher pH (potential hydrogen) than tap water, which boosts hydration.
Listen closely, as David drops a massive amount of knowledge on this episode!
